How much resin for a 50 × 70 cm canvas?
A 50 × 70 cm canvas (3,500 square centimetres) needs about 1,155 milliliters of mixed resin — about 1.2 liters — for a full 3 millimetre coat, including 10% extra: 578 milliliters each of resin and hardener for a 1:1 product.
How to work it out
- Area: 70 cm × 50 cm = 3,500 cm²
- 3,500 cm² × 3 mm = 1,050 cm³ = 1,050 ml; + 10% = 1,155 ml (≈ 1,213 g on a scale)
- Mix ratio 1 : 1 by volume, SG A 1.15 / B 0.95 (typical, not published by the maker — type your data sheet’s SGs for exact weights) → Part A 578 ml (664 g) + Part B 578 ml (549 g)
A 50 × 70 cm canvas is a common European poster and frame size. In metric the check is easy: every 100 cm² at 3 mm is 30 ml, and 3,500 cm² works out to 1,050 ml before waste.

What to know about a 50 × 70 cm canvas
Check how your kit is labelled. Resin sold in Europe is often sized by weight, not volume: a “1 kg” kit is only about 900 ml of mixed resin at a typical density of around 1.1 g/ml, while a “1 L” kit is a liter. Either way one kit is short for a full coat here. A 1.5 L kit covers it with about 345 ml left over; two 1 kg kits are the other common answer.
If you measure by weight, the whole coat is about 1,213 g of mixed resin. Many European art resins print a weight ratio next to the volume ratio, and on a scale you can mix to the gram — easier than reading a liter jug.
At about 20 × 28 in, this sits between the US 18 × 24 and 24 × 36 sizes, and it’s still a single batch at the default 1,500 ml limit. A thin 1.5 mm coat halves the resin (see below) but won’t self-level into the glassy finish most people want on a poster-size piece; plan on the full 3 mm unless the surface is already smooth and sealed.
