How much epoxy for a 1-car garage floor?
You need 2 kits of garage floor epoxy rated at 250 square feet per coat for a 12 × 22 ft one-car garage (264 square feet), because one coat plus a 10% margin comes to 290 square feet.
How to work it out
- 22 ft × 12 ft = 264 sq ft × 1 coat + 10% = 290 sq ft
- 290 sq ft ÷ 250 sq ft per kit = 1.16 → 2 kits
- Section per kit: 250 sq ft ÷ 1.1 = 227 sq ft
A one-car garage is usually somewhere around 12 × 20 to 14 × 24 ft. This one, at 12 × 22 ft, is the awkward size for kit buyers: 264 sq ft is only a little more than a single 250 sq ft box covers, so the second kit ends up mostly spare. The table below shows how quickly the count changes as the garage gets deeper.

- Kit coverage assumes clean, properly prepared concrete. Old, porous or etched floors can drink noticeably more of the first coat.

What to know about a 1-car garage floor
The second kit here covers barely a sixth of its rating, which leaves roughly 210 sq ft of coverage unused. You have three honest options. Buy two kits and use the spare to give the tire paths and the strip in front of the door a second coat — those are the areas that wear first. Look for a single kit rated for at least 300 sq ft, which just covers this floor with the margin (a tight fit, so measure first). Or buy two and keep the second one sealed; unopened kits keep for a while, but check the shelf life on the box before you count on it for touch-ups.
Measure wall to wall, not the door. A single door is often around 8 or 9 ft wide, but the floor behind it is wider, and many one-car garages have a step, a water heater or a workbench along one side. Leave out anything fixed that you won’t move, and add the apron under the door if you plan to coat up to the weather seal.
Narrow floors are easy to paint yourself into. Start at the back wall, work in strips across the width, and finish at the door so you’re not trapped against the far wall with a wet floor between you and the exit.
