How much resin for 6 hexagon coasters?
Six hexagon coasters 10 cm across the flats and 8 mm deep need about 457 milliliters of mixed resin, including 10% extra — 69.3 milliliters per coaster, or about 72.7 g each on a scale.
How to work it out
- 0.866 × (10 cm)² × 8 mm = 69 cm³ = 69.3 ml each (≈ 72.7 g on a kitchen scale)
- × 6 + 10% = 457 ml (≈ 480 g on a scale)
- Mix ratio 1 : 1 by volume, SG A 1.15 / B 0.95 (typical, not published by the maker — type your data sheet’s SGs for exact weights) → Part A 229 ml (263 g) + Part B 229 ml (217 g)
Hexagon molds are measured flat-to-flat. A regular hexagon covers about 87% of the area of a square the same width, while a circle covers about 79% — so a 10 cm hexagon holds roughly 10% more resin than a 10 cm round coaster of the same depth.

- What to buy: 1 × 500 ml casting resin kit. Each kit has both bottles (resin + hardener) — you don’t buy them separately. Looking at a different kit size? Change Kit size above.
- Tight fit: only 42.7 ml spare. Resin left in the cup and on the stir stick can use that up — buy one more kit if you’re adding pigment or want a test pour.
- At this depth, use a casting resin whose label covers it — coating (art) resins are made to go on only about 1/8 in (3 mm) per layer.

What to know about 6 hexagon coasters
Check which way your mold is measured. A hexagon that is 10 cm across the flats is about 11.5 cm from corner to corner. If the listing says 10 cm and that turns out to be corner to corner, the flats are about 8.66 cm and the set needs only about 343 ml (see below). Entering a corner-to-corner figure as if it were the flats is the most common way to over-mix for hexagons.
A 500 ml kit covers this set with about 43 ml spare — enough for the cup residue, not for a seventh coaster. Hexagon sets are often poured with a matching honeycomb tray or holder; if you’re pouring one, work out its resin separately in the resin mold calculator and add it to the order before you buy.
At 8 mm, these are deeper than the roughly 3 mm a coating resin like ArtResin levels to in one layer, so either use a casting resin rated for the depth or pour in layers and let each one thicken to a soft gel before the next. Each coaster takes about 72.7 g by weight, which is the number to pour to on a scale. Hexagons tile edge to edge, so a small mismatch in thickness shows when the set is laid out together — pour all six from one batch.
